Cookie Policy
A plain account of the cookies this website uses, what each one does, and how you can adjust your preferences at any time.
Last updated: 1 January 2025
When you visit the Merlion Ledger website, small data files called cookies may be placed on your device. This page explains what each category of cookie does and how you can manage them. We aim to use as few cookies as necessary to operate the site properly, and we will always ask for your consent before placing any non-essential cookie.
1. What Are Cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your computer, phone, or tablet when you visit. The file is stored locally on your device and is read back by the website on subsequent visits. Cookies serve many functions: some are essential to keep a session working correctly, others help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it, and others support the advertising channels we use to reach new learners.
Cookies cannot run programmes or deliver viruses. They cannot read other data on your device. They are simply a way of passing a small amount of information between your browser and the website's server.
Related technologies such as web beacons and pixel tags operate similarly and are covered by this policy under the same category headings.
2. How We Use Cookies
We group cookies into four categories: Essential, Analytics, Marketing, and Preferences. When you first visit this website, a consent banner will appear. You may accept all categories, accept essential cookies only, or make a category-by-category selection.
Your consent choice is stored in your browser and honoured on future visits. You may change your selection at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page.
Essential cookies are placed regardless of your consent choice, as they are required for the site to function correctly. All other categories are placed only if you consent.
3. Essential Cookies Essential
These cookies are necessary for the website to function. Without them, features such as the contact form, course enrolment flow, and cookie consent memory would not work. They do not collect information about you that could be used for marketing.
Because they are essential, they are always active and cannot be switched off through the consent banner. You may disable them in your browser settings, but this may cause parts of the site to stop working as intended.
Examples of what these cookies do:
- Remember your cookie consent preferences so we do not ask on every page visit.
- Maintain the state of any forms you are completing during a visit.
- Store a session identifier so the server can respond to your requests correctly.
4. Analytics Cookies Analytics
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the website. They collect information in aggregate — for instance, which pages are visited most frequently, how long visitors spend on a page, and from which broad geographic region visitors arrive. This information is used only to improve the website experience.
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for this purpose. GA4 operates under a data processing agreement between Merlion Ledger and Google. IP addresses collected through GA4 are anonymised. Google may transfer analytics data outside Singapore; for further details, consult Google's Privacy Policy.
We also use Microsoft Clarity to understand page interaction patterns such as scroll depth and click areas. Data collected is aggregated and not linked to named individuals.
Analytics cookies are only placed with your consent. If you decline, we will not be able to count your visit in our site statistics.
5. Marketing Cookies Marketing
Marketing cookies help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising and, where permitted, allow us to show relevant information about our courses to visitors who have previously expressed an interest in the site. These cookies may be set by third-party advertising platforms including Google Ads and Meta (Facebook / Instagram).
The information collected by these cookies may be shared with advertising platforms to determine whether an advertisement resulted in a visit or an enrolment. It is used for attribution and budget planning, not for profiling individuals beyond their interaction with our own advertisements.
If you decline marketing cookies, we will not be able to measure advertising performance, and you may see Merlion Ledger advertisements on other platforms without any connection to your visit here.
For information about how these platforms handle your data, please consult:
6. Preference Cookies Preferences
Preference cookies remember choices you make on the site to provide a more personalised experience on return visits. At present, these cover display preferences such as whether you have previously closed an informational notice, and any reading-progress indicators in Course Materials.
These are entirely optional. Declining them means the site will not retain any personalisation between sessions, but all core functionality remains available.

8. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have three routes to manage cookies on this website:
Our consent banner. When you first arrive, a banner at the base of the screen allows you to accept all categories, accept essential only, or choose individual categories. Your selection is saved and remembered for future visits.
Cookie settings link. You can revisit your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer. This reopens the consent panel and allows you to change any category selection.
Your browser. All modern browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies through their settings. The links below will take you to guidance for the most common browsers:
Blocking all cookies through your browser will prevent some features of this site from working correctly, particularly the contact form and any course access functionality. Blocking cookies does not affect information held in your Merlion Ledger enrolment record, which is managed separately.
9. Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies are set by third parties whose services we use, including Google, Meta, and Microsoft. These parties may receive data about your visit and may use it in accordance with their own privacy policies. Merlion Ledger does not control third-party cookie behaviour beyond the consent signals we pass to their respective consent management interfaces.
This website does not embed social media sharing buttons, video players, or live chat tools that would result in additional third-party cookies beyond those listed in the reference table above.
The Google Maps embed on our homepage (showing our office location) may place a limited session cookie for map interaction; this is classified as essential as it is necessary to render the map correctly.
10. Updates to This Policy
We will update this Cookie Policy if we add new cookies or change how existing ones are used. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. If the changes are material — for example, if we add a new category of cookie that was not previously in use — we will re-present the consent banner to all site visitors.
